The value of exports of Norwegian salmon in August totalled NOK 3.6 billion (USD 581.1 million), an increase of NOK 101 million (USD 16.3 million), or 3 per cent, compared to last August. According to figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council, measured in product weight, the exported amount increased by 8,150 tonnes, or 11 per cent, to 85,000 tonnes.
To date, total exports for salmon have totalled NOK 28.4 billion (USD 4.6 million). This is NOK 4.5 billion (USD  726,400 million), or 19 per cent, more than in the same period last year. At the same time, the amount of salmon exported increased by 57,000 tonnes to 634,000 tonnes.

“The development in salmon exports shows that the increase in global demand is strong and that the Norwegian salmon industry is well able to self-adapt , even after Russia introduced the import ban for Norwegian food products," explains Bjørn-Erik Stabell, Marketing Manager for Salmon at the Norwegian Seafood Council.

The average price for fresh whole salmon in August was NOK 36.04 (USD 5.8), down NOK 4.69 (USD 0.75) from last August. The price in August was 11 per cent lower than the average price in July.

The export of Norwegian salmon to Russia was reduced in August by close to 80 per cent to a total of 1,750 tonnes, measured in product weight, compared to the same month last year. This reduction is due to Russian’s import ban on food products from Norway, which took effect on 7 August.

The value of exports of Norwegian salmon to the EU in August was close to NOK 2.4 billion (USD 387.4 million), up 11 per cent from last August. Measured in product weight, the increase in exports to EU was as high as 22 per cent, totalling 63,902 tonnes. This means that, as expected, imports to the EU in August increased relatively more than the average otherwise. Poland and France were the largest markets in the EU for Norwegian salmon in August.

The value of exports of salmon to Asia was NOK 551 million (USD 88.9 million) in August, an increase of 11 per cent compared to the same month last year. This growth was driven by a volume increase of 2,000 tonnes, 20 per cent more than in the same month last year.

The value of exports of salmon to the US was NOK 137 million (USD 88.9 million), in August, an increase of 77 per cent compared to last August. The exported volume increased by around 900 tonnes to a total of 2,006 tonnes.

The value of exports of Norwegian fjord trout in August was NOK 150 million (USD 24.2 million), down NOK 60 million (USD 9.7 million), or 28 per cent, compared to last August. Measured in product weight, the exported volume in August was down 30 per cent to a total of 3,300 tonnes. The largest markets for Norwegian fjord trout in August after Russia introduced the import ban were Belarus and Poland.
