Fishmeal industry landings fall to less than half in 2014

Last December, 110.500 tonnes of fishery resources were landed in Peruvian ports, 90.4 per cent less than in the same month of 2013, when landings totalled 1,152,800 tonnes.
According to the latest Statistical Bulletin prepared by the Ministry of Production(Produce), in the last month of 2014 no fishery resources were landed for the fishmeal and fish oil industry, while 1,054,000 tonnes had been downloaded in December 2013.
When assessing the 12 months of 2014, it can be observed that total landings fell by 41 per cent over the previous year, from 6 million tonnes in 2013 to 3.5 million tonnes.
Some 2.2 million tonnes of fish resources for indirect consumption were used in 2014, compared to 4.7 million tonnes in 2013, that is to say, 52.6 per cent less.
For direct human consumption, 110,500 tonnes of fish were landed last December, compared to 98,900 tonnes in the same month of 2013.
A total of 1,285,400 tonnes of resources were used for direct consumption during last year, 3.1 per cent more than in 2013 (1,246,200 tonnes).
For frozen product preparation, 59,000 tonnes were landed last December, while 46,300 tonnes had been discharged in the same month of 2013.
Between January and December 2014, the accumulated landings for the industry totalled 718,700 tonnes, 13.4 per cent more than in the same period of 2013, when 633,600 tonnes were unloaded.
On the other hand, fishery resources used by the canning industry in December 2014 totalled 6,000 tonnes, vs. 9,100 tonnes in the same month last year.
A decrease of 37.5 per cent was recorded in the resources used by the canning industry between the first and twelfth month last year: 90,000 tonnes compared to 144,000 tonnes in the same period of 2013.
Finally, last year 443,000 tonnes of resources for fresh consumption, 5.8 per cent more than in 2013 were unloaded (418,700 tonnes).
