“Latitude 41º 59’ South, longitude 61º 05’West ”, the ship El Marisco II was located there at the time the indiscriminate and shameful discarding of hake and prawn that the crew had to carry out was filmed from inside. The same ones who denounced him.

The images of the video that the crew of El Marisco II published on social networks this week show the impunity and irresponsibility with which some businessmen handle themselves. Commercial-sized hake and shrimp are thrown into the water. There is no control, there is no inspector on board, no observer, much less monitoring cameras. The absent state on the high seas.

It is known in the fishing environment that Antonio Di Leva, the owner of the El Marisco company, requires his crews to only fill the holds with adult hake of the largest sizes. A gossip that this week stopped being so to become the most obscene truth.

Tired of being part of the predation, the crew of El Marisco II made public a video on social networks where the indiscriminate discarding of hubbsi hake and shrimp is exhibited. In the crewman's own story, the geographical position in which they are and their astonishment and boredom, forced to prey, emerges.

“This is how we throw shrimp into the water, we have so much wealth that we throw it away, it is incredible what happens, this is not seen anywhere. Prawn, hake, this is how we are throwing away the wealth of the sea because the businessman does not want us to bring him shrimp ”, the crew member who recorded the images is heard saying.

Without a doubt, this crew deserves recognition for their bravery, for exposing their employer in order to defend the resources of our country, and an exemplary punishment for the irresponsible and criminal businessman from an environmental point of view.

Di Leva not only requires his crew to discard shrimp but also hake that does not meet his size requirements. Something that, after the evidence, we can confirm that it has been happening for years, as mentioned.

How Di Leva and the firm El Marisco are going to compensate for the damage they have caused not only to the environment, but to the sector, exhibiting them as irresponsible pirates to the world; when the majority make great efforts to change not only a mentality but a specific way of working.

These unfortunate news stain an entire sector that intends to operate under sustainability parameters, which finances research campaigns for a better use of resources and tries to work closely with researchers to avoid predation that would condemn the fishing business in the future. .

The State was absent for all the years that this businessman has been carrying out obscenely predatory practices, allowing this boat and all those owned by the company to have scandalously violated the Fisheries Law. The officials of the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and the Directorate of Management and Inspection not only have the obligation to punish the defendant but also to reverse the lack of control that obviously reigns on board some vessels.
