Mr Good’s Fabulous Fish is the latest product offering from the established seafood enterprise, The Good Fish Company. The value-added consumer product, which comes in a special pouch pack that can be used in the microwave, in the oven and on the hob is now available in Tesco Ireland.
The new brand range comes in three varieties: cajun spiced salmon fillet; lemon marinated hake fillets; and garlic and herb marinated cod fillets, with other products to follow.
The new range comes in a special pouch pack that can be used in the microwave, in the oven and on the hob.
Maria Broderick, Business Development Manager, The Good Fish Company, says the fact that the product can be cooked using a variety of cooking methods gives Mr Good’s Fabulous Fish a distinct advantage in the market.
"The multi cook pouch is unique to the market, the specialised packaging we use allows consumers to cook the product in the oven, microwave, or on the hob in simmering water with no need to remove any packaging. This means you are preserving all the nutrients and goodness of the fish while cooking. I would like to thank BIM, Enterprise Ireland and Bord Bia for all their assistance on this project to date", says Maria Broderick.

This unique product range was developed by Good Fish with the assistance of the Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) Seafood Development Centre (SDC) in Clonakilty, Co. Cork. The SDC is a purpose built facility that enables seafood companies to develop and test new products using the range of technology and expertise in the centre before commiting to capital expenditure. Maria worked closely with the SDC team to validate appropriate cooking times in order to ensure the fish was cooked to perfection using each cooking method.
Aileen Deasy, BIM’s Seafood Technologist explains: "This range of products are so convenient - it makes fish so simple and easy to cook. They offer a complete solution to anybody who wants to cook fish at home, at work, and generally on the go with busy lifestyles. The unique pouch retains the goodness of the fish in its natural juices and individually wrapped portions offers great choice for customers who wish to have the option of enjoying a healthy seafood meal at different times".

The Good Fish Company also produces other value-added products, such as haddock/salmon goujons and white fish nuggets, which are popular with children. These products will be incorporated into the Mr Good’s Fabulous Fish brand in the future. As will their smoked Irish Organic salmon and superior smoked salmon.
The product is also suitable for the foodservice market, particularly for premises with very limited kitchen facilities and staff as the product has also been tested in high speed ovens such as Merrychef and Turbo Chef which now gives many eateries the opportunity to put fish on their menu plus giving them the benefits of portion control, portion cost, convenience, clean in both storing and cooking as it is pre wrapped.
The Good Fish Company is a leading supplier of Seafood products to the catering and wholesale industries.
The Good Fish Company run six shops in Cork, one connected with its factory and five in Cork suburbs. The company also supplies the Irish retail and foodservice sectors with non-branded products. However, with its new brand, The Good Fish Company is hoping to expand its business into new markets.
The UK market is currently the main focus of the company’s export agenda, however, it also has mainland Europe in its sights for smoked salmon products, which are popular in that region.
The Good Fish Company is committed to supporting Irish fishermen by adopting the Responsible Irish Fish (RIF) label for Irish fish and shellfish. The new label for fish and shellfish has been introduced to ensure Irish fisherman can differentiate their products as 100 per cent Irish in the marketplace, with all Irish products bearing the RIF logo fully traceable to an Irish vessel. The label is only available to processors who source fish from Irish vessels, which are part of the Responsible Irish Fish Association.
The Good Fish Company also produces smoked Irish organic salmon and trout as members of Organic Trust.
Denis Good, Managing Director, The Good Fish Company said: "We believe this scheme will protect and develop the fishing industry. We know that our customers are keen to buy fresh Irish seafood whenever possible and this scheme will provide them with the quality and assurance they are looking for".
Furthermore, the company has also signed up to Bord Bia’s voluntary sustainability programme, Origin Green.
