The trustee of the canning firm Bernardo Alfageme finally liquidated the factory in Vigo and was allocated to three creditor banks – Abanca, Popular and Banco de Galicia -- for EUR 11.2 million.
As no other bidders were present at the auction held in the Commercial Court 3, the creditor banks already owns Bouzas plant in Vigo, covering about 14,355 square metres.
The secretary of the Federation of Food of the CIG, Xosé Fernández Piñeiro, said that while there were no other bidders except for the above mentioned banks, a two-week period opens in case a bidder making a better offer than the only one that exists, reported EFE agency.
Following this decision, about 100 workers expect to charge about 60 per cent of its compensation, totalling approximately EUR 2 million.
For Fernandez Piñeiro, these workers have "the moral right" and "are about to discuss" if they also have a legal one to claim some of the capital gains with the increased construction volume on that plot approved by the Town of Vigo, valued at EUR 26 million.
With this transaction, all the assets of the canning sector are settled, as previously the factories Ribadumia and Vilaxoan had been allocated, a land with ships and ramp in Vigo and the brands Miau, Peña and Eureka, the newspaper Faro de Vigo reported.
Alfageme managed to have 350 workers, but entered the creditors’ meeting in 2010.
